Our retrospective, non-randomised, non-controlled follow-up includes 81 patients with Fasciitis-plantaris, 56 with Epicondylopathia-humeri-radialis, 35 with Tendinosis-calcarea and 15 with Pseudarthrosis. The period of treatment was 2000 - 2004. The treatment of the included patients was standardized and took place 3 times in a weekly interval with a piezoelectric ESWT (R.WOLF, Knittlingen). In advance of every treatment the pathology was sonographically shown and localized. Treatment took place without local anaesthesia with 4 Hz and 3600 impulses of high-energy ESWT (>0.6 mJ/mm2) per setting. Treatment of Epicondylopathiae occured with medium-energy ESWT (0.2-0.4 mJ/mm2). The follow-up examination took place after 6 weeks, 6 month and one year.

Not only the patients with Fasciitis-plantaris but also with Epicondylopathiae had a significant decrease of the pain level at rest and motion on a visual-analog-scale (VAS) from 0 to 10. There was a significant increase of the painfree walking distance of the patients with Fasciitis-plantaris. There was a non-significant decrease of the pain level for the patients with Tendinosis-calcarea. A consolidation of Pseudarthrosis could be shown in 11 of 15 cases.

There were no remarkable side-effects during the therapy.

The effectiveness of the ESWT in the treatment of Fasciitis-plantaris and Epicondylopathia-humeri-radialis has been shown in current studies. On the basis of our results and the very low rate of side-effects we recommend the piezoelectric ESWT in the treatment of the standardindications of the DIGEST.
