Examination of vocal aptitude in professional voice users is very common in daily otolaryngological practice even though it is not necessarily needed by training facilities due to missing legal establishment.

Whereas vocal unfit is easily to be defined using voice diagnostics, objective scaling of voice quality and quantity in voice aptitude tests is rather difficult.

Goal of this paper is the score implementation in order to evaluate the communicative preconditions of future voice professionals. This score was elaborated and for many years applied in vocal aptitude tests by the University Hospital Vienna/Dept. of Phonatrics and Logopedics in cooperation with the Academy of Logopedics, Phoniatrics, Pedaudiology Vienna.

The score considers results of pure tone audiometry, evaluation of orofacial system and articulation, perceptual voice sound evaluation, voice range profile measurement, and stroboscopy. In case the vocal fitness of the applicant does exclude her/him, the applicant will be transferred to voice therapy. In case the fitness is sufficient the system allows ranking the applicants based on their score; preventive voice therapy may also be initiated based on the individual results.
