Objective

Learning of clinical efficacy of the intravitreal and tenon's space triamcinolone acetonide in the treatment of patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy.

Methods

The study included 35 patients (62 eyes) - men and women in the age from 35 to 72 years. The first group (17 patients - 30 eyes) got an intravitreal injection of triamcinolone acetonide at the dose of 4 mg in 0.1 ml twice with an interval of two months. The second group (18 patients - 32 eyes) got triamcinolone acetonide in tenon's space at the dose of 20 mg in 0.5 ml twice with an interval of two months. Examination of patients included: detection of visual acuity (without correction, with correction), an ophthalmoscopy direct and revertive, ophthalmobiomicroscopy, a biomicroscopy with usage of Goldman lens, tonometry. The evaluation of clinical efficacy of drugs was carried out with the count of dynamics of visual functions, decreases of quantity of neovascularisation of an optic disk and in other parts of a retina, preretinal hemorrhages, a fibrous tissue.

Results

After the course of treatment visual acuity increased for 57% with patients of the first group and for 31% with the second group on the average in 0,18±0,02. The quantity of neovascularisation of an optic disk and in other parts of a retina, preretinal hemorrhages with 62% of patients of the first group and with 24% of the second group decreased or stabilised. None of patients did not have an increase of an intraocular pressure, a postoperative endophthalmitis, development back subcapsular cataracts, retinal detachment.

Conclusions

Intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide in complex treatment of a proliferative diabetic retinopathy improves vision, reducing or stabilizing of neovascularisation of an optic disk and in other parts of a retina, preretinal hemorrhages. Positive results and no side effects were registered during the treatment.
