Outline

Text

Objective: Our aim was to replicate the findings of a linkage region on chromosome 17cen that was previously reported in 29 Japanese families with three or more individauls harboring an intracranial aneurysm.

Methods: We performed a non-parametric linkage analysis, using a total of 253 familial aneurysm cases, including 125 affected sibpairs. 10 microsatellite markers covering a 17.7cM region were chosen, according to the previous publication where nominal P had been below 0.05. Statistical analysis was performed by employing GENEHUNTER and SIBPAL software.

Results: After calculation of the logarithm of the odds (LOD) and nonparametric LOD (NPL) scores we found no linkage in the analyzed region. Our conclusion did not change even after only affected sibpairs were analyzed.

Conclusions: The majority of Japanese sibpairs with a history of familial intracranial aneurysm do not have a genetic linkage to Chromosome 17cen.
