Peer Review Process

The review process aims to ensure that only high-quality, innovative scientific manuscripts that provide new insights are published. Manuscript submissions are reviewed by experts well-versed in the respective field. These experts remain anonymous both to the author and to each other.
Manuscripts are reviewed based on an online review sheet that allows detailed comments and revision requests. The author receives these comments in anonymized form. The review is concluded with the classification of the manuscript into one out of the following four categories:

  1. Accepted in the present form
  2. Revision necessary
  3. Rejected, resubmission possible
  4. Rejected

As long as the editor-in-chief does not have any fundamental reservations, it will be acted on the assessments of the reviewers. In cases of doubt, a further review will be obtained. The work will be accepted for publishing, when the expectations of the reviewers and the editor are fulfilled. If the manuscript is rejected, the authors will receive a rejection message with the detailed comments of the reviewers, in order to make the reasons of the rejection transparent.
The overall goal of all efforts is to make the review of scientific submissions for “GMS Infectious Diseases” as transparent as possible and as critical as necessary.
