76th Annual Meeting of the German Society of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, Head and Neck Surgery

German Society of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, Head and Neck Surgery

04.05. - 08.05.2005, Erfurt

Welcome

Dear guests,
dear colleagues

Welcome to Erfurt! Are you aware of the fact that our society which was founded in 1921 had never before held their annual meeting in Thuringia, the green heart of Germany? Erfurt is situated in the very middle of Bad Reichenhall and Helgoland, of Greifwalder Bodden and Freiburg in Breisgau resp. of Bonn and Görlitz. The great interest in our annual meeting and the downright high number (more than 700) of report registrations are for sure partly due to this favorable situation in the middle of Germany.

I would be glad if you returned home from Erfurt with good feelings and said:
"Thuringia is evidently a good congress place. We will remember it when choosing future congress places."

In any case I hope that you will take along an inspiring and lasting positive impression of our convention place and above all of the contents of our congress. You will be offered an extensive scientific program.

The motto of our congress is:
„Restoring methods of functional defects in the head and neck zone“.

The restoration of health is the finest duty of every physician. Therefore we have summarized important aspects of expert treatment methods for this year's presentation volume. The publication already on hand should be interesting for practitioners as well as for theorists.

The extensive presentation program is flanked by the 5th Care Day and the 4th annual meeting of the German Academy for ENT Medicine and Head and Neck Surgery. As president I also want to call your attention to the compact industrial exhibition. This year every congress visitor can get in direct contact with exhibitors thanks to the good room layout.

Monitors which will show you the updated state of the speech sequences at any time will be installed in all congress areas for your information. After the sessions we offer you informal "after work" meetings in the exhibition center, so that you won't have to walk very far and there will be ample opportunities for an exchange of ideas.

The extensive social program is adapted to make you familiar with the cultural variety of Thuringia. I want to remind you of Goethe, Schiller, Herder, Wieland, Abbé, Zeiss, Fröbel, Luther, Bach, Duden, Brehm and the romaticists among many others. On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the death of Friedrich Schiller we want to take you to Jena and Weimar as well as to the world cultural heritage Wartburg. A special highlight of our get-together will be on Saturday when we are supposed to visit an organ recital and to experience the performance of a sign choir at the cathedral of Erfurt. And we will enjoy the evening in the Emperor's Hall.

I am looking forward to your participation and remain with best regards

Eggert Beleites
