13. Grazer Konferenz – Teaching Medicine – an Interprofessional Agenda

24. - 26.09.2009, Innsbruck, Österreich

Willkommen

Dear Colleagues,

It is a special pleasure for me, for Jörg Stein, and for our hosts and co-organisers from the Medical University of Innsbruck to welcome you to the 13th Graz Conference on medical education. Graz was the venue of the first conference that Jörg Stein and I organized in 1995 and we met here almost yearly until 2004. Innsbruck hosted this conference for the first time in 2005.

This year the local organizing committee was largely responsible for designing the conference program and choosing the contributors. Thus it is a pleasure to acknowledge the contributions of Karen Pierer, Gabriele Werner-Felmayer, Wolfgang Prodinger, and Hans-Georg Kraft. As in the last years Herbert Plass was the conference web-master and edited the conference program: http://grazconference.oeghd.at/ .

There is a growing awareness among our colleagues, that educating future physicians demands not only a scientific and humanistic agenda. We are training professionals and this requires special preparation. Our students need an awareness of the training and the professional responsibilities of colleagues with whom they will be working after graduation. Interprofessional education has been advanced as a possibility to meet this need, since it addresses the attitudinal dimension in addition to the knowledge dimension.

The conference will give us an opportunity to learn from our colleagues and to discuss new ideas. Enjoy yourselves! And come to next years conference, which will take place in Vienna, April 22-24, 2010.
