The presentation will describe a common effort of researches and service developers in Israel to get older adults at different functional physical and cognitive level to exercise and maintain their exercise behavior. A fruitful collaboration between researches and service providers developed an infrastructure that provides a wide range of programs geared to ensure for availability and accessibility of exercise on a routine base in old age, regardless of functional level.

The presentation will describe the following programs: Physical activity programs on the local level “service package” including a variety of courses to meet the needs of different groups at a low cost and special services like fitness rooms designed specifically to meet elderly needs; special programs aimed at physically frail in day centers and bed bound in home for the aged and mentally frail as well. In addition national and local sports events (like activity and walking days at the local level and sports competitions for elderly on the national level), and a new program to encourage outdoor leisure sports activities as arousing knowledge on programs and catalyze sport's behavior will be described.

The presentation will emphasize the connection with professional manpower training, interventions designed and evaluated by academic research, to success of the programs mentioned above and their dissemination.
