In view of the growing part of aged people within the population it is, from the sociopolitical and healthpolitical point of view, very important to develop concepts and measures to support aged people to live as independent and self-contained as possible. But a basic prerequisite to keep this independent lifestyle is a sufficient efficiency. Especially for the group of aged people with physical impairments and health problems the importance of different movement programs which are individually orientated for the physical efficiency grows.

Unfortunately the traditional movement programs for aged people take place in sports halls and mostly the fitter ones take part in these programs.

There are rare and unsufficient movement and sport offers for people older than 75 years.

During the last years the experiences of the KreisSportBund Borken have shown, that with elaborated concepts the sports clubs are able to reach aged people, too. During the implementation of the campaign 2000/project “Kooperationen” the KSB Borken has built 10 seniorgroups in 7 senior dispositions with almost 200 members in the age of 50-96 in 2001 until 2004. 7 member clubs of the KSB helped to implement this project. The movement-and sports offer turned out to be an efficient, cheap and for many concerned people (especially those who are older than 75 years), the only possibility to keep or improve their quality of life. A further important aspect of this program was the ability to reach physically and health impaired people. All activities took place in the senior dispositions.

The movement and sports offer is now, even after the project phase, established in the structures and will in the future take place under the control of the involved sports clubs.
