Introduction
Both pulmonary efficiency and disturbances in respiratory mechanics are major problems associated with scoliosis. They become aggravated with increasing curve severity. Aim: The aim of the study was to determine correlation between declared level of activity (gathered with Scoliosis Research Society (SRS) questionnaire) and physical efficiency of patients measured at min. 2 years following surgical correction scoliosis using CD technique
Methods
Physical efficiency was measured by determining threshold of anaerobic metabolism in 135 scoliosis patients. Max. and relative values of oxygen intake were evaluated. SRS questionnaire was collected from all patients.
Results
Two groups of patients with different physical efficiency were isolated at the average max. oxygen intake 2 l/min and its relative value 37.58 l kg/min. Both groups however did not differ in general outcome of SRS questionnaire and its categories of general function and function activity.
Conclusions
We did not find statistically significant correlation between declared level of activity (represented by results of SRS questionnaire) and the level of physical efficiency.
