Call for papers for a COVID-19 publication series of GMS Medizinische Informatik, Biometrie und Epidemiologie
The COVID-19 pandemic threatens the life and health of people worldwide.
- Policy makers need good pandemic forecasts in order to make the right decisions, and the necessary data must be made available quickly and in a comprehensible quality.
- Doctors, nurses and caregivers need support with work processes and documentation in the increasingly stressful situation not only in the hospital, but also in the private practice or nursing home.
- Residents of nursing homes and patients in hospitals are cut off from their relatives and suffer from loneliness in the face of the threatening situation.
- Management and information management must also ensure the smooth operation of hospitals and their information systems in the face of the increasing threat of cybercrime and the risk of staff absenteeism.
We in Medical Informatics, Medical Documentation, Biometry, Epidemiology, Medical Bioinformatics and Systems Biology must and can make our contribution to help solve and alleviate such problems.
For example, have you
- developed a predictive model?
- collected or processed data that is useful for others?
- designed software or an infrastructure to support medical staff?
- developed an app that helps home residents or patients to cope with the crisis?
- compiled methods and tools so that the information management of different hospitals can better exchange information and cooperate?
Then we ask you to share your proposed solutions with your colleagues.
GMS MIBE is setting up a special publication series for the publication of such work. All types of articles are welcome https://www.egms.de/en/journals/mibe/authors.htm. However, we particularly encourage the publication of case reports, reviews and short articles.
In this way, GMS MIBE aims to support research and development in the disciplines of GMDS that can contribute to coping with the COVID-19 pandemic.
We request original papers that have not yet been published elsewhere and have not yet been submitted to other journals. For the manuscripts to be submitted, please refer to https://www.egms.de/en/journals/mibe/authors.htm. There you will also find a link to the manuscript submission. Please include the reference "COVID-19" when submitting your manuscript.
Submissions for this publication series are possible on an ongoing basis. All submissions are subject to a scientific peer review process. However, we will give higher priority to the publications in this series and would ask all colleagues who are eligible to participate to support us as peer reviewers as soon as possible.
The open access journal GMS MIBE offers publication opportunities that go beyond the offerings of other journals. Free of charge – for readers and authors. For example, research data, software, videos and other attachments can be added to a publication. By focusing on German-speaking countries, it is also possible to publish work that deals with the solution of regional problems and would therefore have fewer chances of being published internationally.
