Call for Papers for a special issue "FHIR – Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources" of GMS Medizinische Informatik, Biometrie und Epidemiologie
Care, science and patient-oriented applications are converging more and more. This requires a maximum degree of interoperability. This can only be achieved and lived if systems work with international standards and store and represent data in a structured and standardized form. In addition to better communication, more precise data content and technical quality improvements, the FHIR standard – Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources – offers new opportunities for patients, doctors, scientists and, last but not least, for citizens.

The necessity of technical and semantic standards for the uniform and error-free exchange of data is also recognized by government authorities and the EU Commission.
In numerous projects and within products, solutions for better and more secure data transmission are currently being developed on the basis of the respective country-specific legal regulations and eHealth strategies.

Together with the GMDS working group "Standards for Interoperability and Electronic Health Records" (SIE, http://www.gmds-ag-sie.de/), GMS MIBE would like to offer these projects a platform to discuss their approaches in a special issue entitled "FHIR - Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources" and to explain why improvements have been made with FHIR. In this way, GMS MIBE would like to make research and development in the field of FHIR known in the German-speaking countries and beyond, and enable an exchange of experience between projects.

We request original papers, which have not yet been published elsewhere or submitted to other journals. For the manuscripts to be submitted, please refer to https://www.egms.de/en/journals/mibe/authors.htm; there you will also find a link to the manuscript submission. Please include the reference "Special Issue FHIR" when submitting your manuscript. Submissions for this special issue are possible until 31.12.2019.

The open access journal GMS MIBE offers publication options that go beyond those offered by other journals. Free of charge – for readers and authors. For example, research data, software, videos and other attachments can be added to a publication. By focusing on the German-speaking world, it is also possible to publish papers that deal with solving regional problems and would therefore have less chance of being published internationally. MIBE appreciates manuscripts in English language.
