Figure 1: Effect of hypothermia on Spreading Depolarization (SD) incidence and expansion (ECoG). After the implementation of our hypothermia protocol, brain temperature decreases on the hypothermic group at a rate of approximately 2°C/hour until it reached a mean temperature of 32.1C° (A, B). Following a middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAo), we observed in the hypothermic group an important reduction in SD incidence (C, D) and expansion (E, F) over the 14 hours of ECoG and IOS recording.
