Figure 6: Status after hypoglossal-facial jump graft operation with resection of the ramus colli of the facial nerve. One can see the good reinnervation at rest. The tongue moves normally. An interesting feature is the synkinetic eye closure when the tongue is moved, to the right as well as to the left, despite the differing innervation direction of the tongue. Synkinesis also occurs despite reduced innervation on the side of the graft (movement of the tongue to the contralateral side).
