Table 12 shows a selection of substances with protective effect upon acoustic trauma with pre-, para- or postexposure application in animal experiments. The substances were applied locally (intracochlear or at the round window membrane) or systemically (orally or intraperitoneally). Many substances show multiple mechanisms of action. Therefore, assignment to substance groups may overlap.
