Call for papers for a special issue on "Patient Safety in Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Continuous Medical Education" for the GMS Journal for Medical Education

Over the past years patient safety has become a focus of interest not only in science and politics, but has gained much public attention in Germany and other countries worldwide. Following this development patient safety is increasingly being attended to in medical education and by medical faculty. Therefore the GMA (German Association for Medical Education) committee on patient safety and error management is editing a special issue of the GMS Journal for Medical Education (JME) on "Patient Safety in Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Continuous Medical Education".

Authors are invited to submit manuscripts (original research, short papers, project reports, review articles) reporting and evaluating methods of teaching patient safety in undergraduate, postgraduate or continuous medical education, including but not limited to innovative teaching methods, specific course descriptions, initiatives or descriptions of complete curricula on patient safety.

Needs analyses and systematic reviews are eligible as well. In manuscripts focussing on course evaluations learning goals should be explicit. We accept submissions referring to all stages of medical education, including postgraduate and continuous medical education. Reports of interprofessional education programs are eligible if medical students or physicians are included in the study group. Manuscripts will be considered if unexpected results were found.

We are looking forward to interesting submissions and research from German- and non-German-speaking countries. Please submit your manuscript in either German or English. It will be translated and published in both languages.

Authors are invited to submit their manuscripts till 11th of February 2018. If authors are uncertain whether a submission is eligible for the special issue please feel free to contact Jan Kiesewetter for further information.

Manuscripts may be submitted through MOPS (Manuscript Operating System) or sent directly to kontakt@gma-dach.org. During submission please indicate that your manuscript is intended for the special issue "Patient Safety in Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Continuous Medical Education".

Before submitting a manuscript please read the information for authors of the GMS Journal for Medical Education and adhere to these guidelines.

Submissions will proceed through the regular review process of JME, the reviewers will be selected by the guest-editors of the special issue.

There is a limit to the number of articles eligible for publication in the special issue. If a manuscript was not selected for publication in the special issue it is still eligible for publication in a regular issue of JME.

However the final decision-making authority of acceptance and publication of submissions rests with the editor-in-chief of JME.

We are looking forward to your manuscripts.

Best regards,
