GMS Journal for Medical Education – the new name of the journal of the German Association for Medical Education (GMA)
The "Medizinische Ausbildung" was first published as the journal of the GMA in 1984 with the subtitle of "forum on research for medical education, further education and advanced training." After some intermediate formats "GMS Zeitschrift für Medizinische Ausbildung (ZMA)" was finally made open access in 2005, its 22nd year. The GMS ZMA has since become the main specialist journal of medical educational research within the German-speaking world. Since 2010, four full-text issues have been distributed annually, bilingually in German/English, and since 2011 the "GMS Zeitschrift für Medizinische Ausbildung (ZMA)" has been indexed by MEDLINE®/PubMed. Due to an increasing and keen interest on an international level, "GMS Zeitschrift für Medizinische Ausbildung (ZMA)" has established itself as one of the most relevant publications for new findings and innovative projects for educational research in the healthcare professions and in medicine, dentistry and veterinary science.
Happily, its interprofessional and international character have meant that its influence has extended far beyond the borders of the German-speaking world. The editorial staff, editor and publisher have decided to acknowledge the increasing internationalization of the journal by making it more accessible to an international readership with a change in name. From 2016 onwards, the journal will appear under the name "GMS Journal for Medical Education".
