gms cooperates with Dryad for Open Data
Advantages of depositing data at Dryad include:
- Visibility: Making data available online (and linking it back to the publication) provides a new pathway for others to learn about the work of the authors through topical searches.
- Citability: All published data packages and data files receive persistent, resolvable Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) that can be used in a citation as well as listed on the author's CV.
- Workload reduction: When the authors receive individual requests for data, they can simply direct them to the archived files in Dryad.
- Preservation: Data will be archived permanently and safely.
- Impact: The reuse of the data will lead to higher citation rates and the downloads can be monitored through Dryad's usage statistics.
In the context of this cooperation, the first article with simultaneous data deposit at Dryad has been published in the journal GMS German Medical Science.
The German National Library of Medicine, as one of the institutions involved in gms and committed to the publication and preservation of research data, has accepted to cover initially for two years the cost of data uploads at Dryad, which are associated with new articles in GMS German Medical Science. The integration of other journals in the Dryad cooperation is in preparation.
