GMS Best Paper Award

The article "Atherosclerosis, cholesterol, nutrition, and statins – a critical review" by Jan-Olaf Gebbers from 2007 was awarded best paper in the history of GMS.

On the occasion of the ten-year anniversary of German Medical Science an expert panel chose the best article published in "GMS German Medical Science – An Interdisciplinary Journal" since its start in 2003:
Gebbers JO. Atherosclerosis, cholesterol, nutrition, and statins – a critical review [Atherosklerose, Cholesterin, Ernährung und Statine – eine kritische Übersicht]. GMS Ger Med Sci. 2007;5:Doc04.

In the run were research articles and review articles, which were published in "GMS German Medical Science – An Interdisciplinary Journal" up to and including 2012. The chair of the editing Association of the Scientific Medical Societies in Germany (AWMF) decided on the award. For this each member of the scientific committee of German Medical Science was asked for three suggestions. Then the editorial board of "GMS German Medical Science – An Interdisciplinary Journal" together with the chair of the AWMF determined the prize winner from all incoming suggestions. Therefore relevance and scientific quality of the articles were comparatively evaluated.

At the ceremony of the forty-year anniversary of the German National Library of Medicine (ZB MED) the award endowed with 1,000 Euro was handed to the author.

GMS Annual Best Paper Award

After the special award for the ten-year jubilee of "GMS German Medical Science – An Interdisciplinary Journal" in the future there will be a an award on a regular basis. At the beginning of each year an article of the previous year will be chosen as best paper in the way described and awarded.
