2011 Roundup for German Medical Science
First of all, it has been a good year in terms of dissemination. More than ever, gms articles are widely available for readers throughout the web. First and foremost, seven of our journals can now be found in PubMed. Users can also lookup gms articles within some social networks for scientists and link them with their profiles (e.g. ResearchGate, Mendeley). Other sites where gms contents are included are BASE, DOAJ, DRIVER, Embase, Europeana, Scopus, and WorldCat. We also added an RSS feed to the website and started getting social by using Twitter, Facebook, and Google+. Try it out, join us, follow us!
Our editorial office staff had their hands full of publishing more than ever. Besides the running journals, two new journals started in 2011 and 30 societies published their meetings with us. Thus, more fields of the wide area of medicine are covered by gms, such as ophthalmology, pediatrics, plastic and reconstructive surgery, and sports medicine. There are more new journals and meetings in the starting blocks for 2012, so stay tuned.
In October, GMS has been awarded the prize "Selected Landmark in the Land of Ideas" of the contest "365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas" under the patronage of the Federal President of Germany, Christian Wulff. On the occasion of the award ceremony, we organized a mini symposium on open access in Cologne.
