Aim: One of the most serious complication of the open globe injuries is the development of the post-traumatic endophthalmitis. The aim of this report is to evaluate the results of post-traumatic endophthalmitis after penetrating open globe injuries with metallic intraocular foreign bodies (IOFB´s)

Material and methods: There are presented the results of penetrating injures with metallic IOFB´s in 50 eyes. The occurence of post-traumatic endophthalmitis were in 5 cases (10%). The radical surgical treatment including suture of entering wound, lens extraction, extraction of IOFB by pars plana vitrectomy with silicone oil tamponade in all cases with post-traumatic endophthalmitis was performed.

Results: Authors presented the anatomical and functional results of 5 cases with post-traumatic endophthalmitis with postsurgical complications.

Conclusion: Anatomical and funcional result of open globe injuries by metallic IOFB complicated by post-traumatic endophthalmitis depends on early and exact diagnosis, type of infection and adequate surgical repair.
