Background: The principal problem of radiation therapy planning formulated in the form of integral equations have earlier been described in the literature for particles, such as light ions, electrons and photons as well as in the case of combined treatment modalities for treatment optimization. In this work, new aspects and approaches related to the light ions as well as other beam modalities integration in the treatment planning are presented. The principal problem of radiation therapy planning is formulated in the form of new integral equations for treatment optimization.

Methods: The theoretical work is exemplified in use of developed analytical transport theories and Monte Carlo.

Results – Conclusion: The results illustrate the potential in handling the light ions and other beam modalities unique physical and biological properties in a future biological optimized inverse treatment planning process. The present work may be very useful in the success on the optimal application of different beam modalities in the biological optimize radiation treatment and so for improved therapeutic outcome.
