To install a state wide newborn hearing screening in Saxony-Anhalt, we asked by means of questionnaires about the equipments and manpower of the delivery hospitals.

We learned that these hospitals prefer to use otoacoustic emissions (OAE) screening, additionally a few hospitals offered auditory brainstem response (ABR) measurements.

There is no standard as far as the devices are. Although there were intensive attempts to install these devices in all hospitals, at least three hospitals were not able to get such a equipment. But there is hope that these hospitals will get these OAE devices to start with OAE screening soon.

The current state of the screening is shown on this poster the same as problems, which occurred during the period of establishing the screening.

Next step will be the introduction of the tracking to the follow up to get the chance to start an efficient therapy in time.
