Objective

To summarise the main approaches to dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR).

Methods

Evidence-based review of external and endonasal endoscopic DCR with a detailed description of modern powered endoscopic techniques. Key issues to compare include advantages, disadvantages and outcome measures, both subjective and objective.

Results

Review of techniques and summaries of key principles with videos of techniques. Critical appraisal of current literature with key emphasis on meaningful comparison between studies and the role of each individual approach.

Conclusions

When selected appropriately, both external and endoscopic DCR have a valid role in the management of lacrimal disorders.
