Objective

Mohr has modified the technique of implantation of aphakic iris claw imtraocular lenses (Artisan™ / Verisyse™) (IOL) into the retropupillary space. The difficulty in the process of implantation is particularly evident when the lens has to be regrasped from one hand into another. The distortion of the pupil observed with other forceps creates problems in proper centration of the lens prior to the enclavation.

Methods

We developed a new forceps together with the Geuder Company (Germany).

Results

The new forceps untilizes a 3 point fixation behind the lens optic leaving the pupil almost undistorted. Changing enclavation hands became much easier since the forceps holds the instrument instantly, unless released by the surgeon.

Conclusions

The new forceps keeps promise to become a useful tool for safe and simple implantation of aphakic iris-claw lenses behind the iris
