Objective

To compare the accuracy and the reproducibility of scotopic pupil measurements using 2 different methods.

Methods

Scotopic pupil diameter measurement were compared between green light test and automatic measurement of wave-front analyser WASCA (Zeiss Meditec) also comparing 2 independent examinators measurements. T-Test was performed for comparison of means.

Results

Mean age was 33.6 years. The colour of iris was green or blue in 13 cases and brown in 5 cases. Reproducibility: For green light test we found for the first investigator in the right eye 6.73mm (SD 0.57) resp. 6.64mm (SD 0.54) for the second investigator, in the left eye 6.42mm (SD 0.53) resp. 6.66mm (SD 0.63). For WASCA we found for the first investigator in the right eye 6.44mm (SD 0.57) resp. 6.43mm (SD 0.57) for the second investigator, in the left eye 6.50mm (SD 0.63) resp. 6.46mm (SD 0.54). There was no statistic significant difference between both investigators. Between both measurement methods there was no significant difference between the means of combined data: 6.61mm for green light test (SD 0.48) resp. 6.45mm for WASCA (SD 0.55).

Conclusions

The green light test is of same reproducibility as commercially available pupillometers.
