An increasing number of efficient therapies are currently available for the treatment of the uveal melanoma. In addition to well established therapies as brachytherapy and enucleation various forms of teletherapy such as gamma-knife, linear accelerator and proton beam therapy are gaining popularity. Alternatively, surgical therapies as tumor resection are used in combination with radiation therapy.

In the "Collaborative Ocular Melanoma Study" (COMS) only few therapies were evaluated. However, the results of this study demonstrated important information which is also applicable for other local therapeutical modalities. The implication of these results on future therapeutical strategies will be discussed.
