Objective
To evaluate safety, effectiveness, predictability, and stability of angle-supported phakic intraocular lens (PIOL) implantation for the correction of high myopia.
Setting: Interventional case serie at author's working place.
Methods
67 eyes of 38 patients (12 men, 55 women) we implanted an angle supported PIOL Phakic 6 (29 bilateraly). Mean age was 28.1 years. Follow-up to 2 years. All surgeries were done in parabulbar anaesthesia.
Results
The mean spherical equivalent refraction decreased from -10.12 D to -0.12 D and remained stable. BCVA was 0.86 before and 0.96 after surgery, UCVA was 0.92 after operation. No sight-threatening complications occured through the follow-up period. Non significant pupil ovalization was observed in 5.9% eyes one year and in 32.1% two years after surgery.
Conclusions
AC Phakic 6 IOL can be sucessfully used for correction of high myopia with stable, predictable results.
