In the future, EBM will influence the way medicine will be performed. Also, refractive surgery will be tested according to this principle. In this paper, the concept of an evidence-based evaluation of refractive surgical procedures according to the German Commission for Refractive Surgery shall be demonstrated. A strong emphasis will be made on methodological basis of the evidence-based evaluation. Looking at laser operations of the cornea or implantation of phakic intraocular lenses, refractive surgery will be analyzed according to EBM. Also, current complications of these procedures will be judged according to EBM.
