This film shows how paediatric cataract surgery is performed in a high volume centre in Lahan, Nepal.. In rural areas of developing countries surgeons are facing special challenges.
Most children with cataract present very late, are coming from far away and therefore often don’t return for follow-up. Therefore special considerations have to be applied to achieve the best possible long-term visual outcome.
The film demonstrates the standard paediatric cataract surgical procedure in Lahan, which includes IOL insertion as well as posterior capsulorhexis and anterior vitrectomy. In addition, it also shows the management of special situations, like plaques in anterior and posterior capsule and traumatic cataract.
