B) Histologic photomicrograph of the burn scar obtained 12 months post-operatively. Van Gieson staining showed a considerable normalisation of the collagen/ elastin matrix in the reticular dermis and an increase in collagen eposition at 12 months postoperatively, and the collagen appears not to have been laid down in parallel bundles but is rather in the normal lattice pattern.
