Background: The Avastin database was initiated 2 years ago in a collaboration of several hospitals from Germany and Europe.

Methods: More than 12 registered centers entered via a protected online webpage the anonymous data of their Aavastin patients.

Results: More than 2500 patients with age-related macular degeneration, central or branch retinal vein occlusion, diabetic macular edema, myopic choroidal neovascularization or other additional retinal disease were entered into the database. Numerous subgroup analysis have been performed to determine the functional and anatomical results in retinal vein occlusion [A] in pigment epithelial detachment (PED) [B], macular teleangiectasia [C], or CNV in pseudoxanthoma elasticum [D]. The peri- and postoperative risk profile and incidence reported side-effects of intravitreal anti-VEGF drugs was analyzed in a survey [E]. The risk of hemorrhages after intravitreal injections in patients taking Aspirin was analyzed [F]. The use of postoperative antibiotics to avoid an endophthalmitis was evaluated [G]. The effects of combined avastin and PDT applications in vascular AMD [H] as well as the functional and anatomical effects of combined triple injections of Avastin, rTPa and gas in acute subretinal hemorrhages have been described [I].

Conclusions: The Avastin database is a valuable tool to collect data on \'22off-label\'22 intravitreal Avastin injections in a multicenter fashion. Additional multicenter trial are currently conducted.
