Purpose: Aim of this presentation is to show the options in case of iris damage and pupillary reconstruction in post-traumatic cases.
Methods: We present a case series in which an iris and pupillary injuries are treated with prolene 10-0 surgery to restore the iris diaphragm and the pupil hole.
Those techniques are performed “open sky” or“closed eye” (in this case, often using a 25 gauge anterior infusion and a triamcinolone-assited 25 gauge vitrectomy).
Results: In all case we optained good hestetic and functional (as reduction of haloes and dazzling with pupill restore). No cases of suture lysis, iritis or pigmentary dispersion during the follow-up.
Conclusions: The iris surgery is an excellent solution in cases of functional problems: it can reduce discomfort (haloes and drizzling) also in patients with poor visual function. The hestetic recovery is also important for these patients that are often young. The 25 gauge anterior infusion and the use of triamcinolone are indicated in these cases.
