Background: Since 2006 the Institut Curie – Centre de Protonthérapie d'Orsay (CPO) is involved in an extension and modernization project. The present synchrocyclotron will be stopped. The two existing treatment rooms will receive a proton beam delivered by a new cyclotron that together with a gantry (IBA equipments) will provide new medical specifications for the centre.

Materials and methods: The work to achieve the connection of the two beamline facilities will be presented. In collaboration with the IPNO (Institut de Physique Nucléaire d'Orsay), a mechanical connection and a beam transport study have been performed. The beam delivery in the existing treatment rooms has been predicted doing transport simulations looking to the physical specifications of the passive system configuration. In order to be coherent with the expected beam size needed for the treatments (Head&Neck and Eye), several emittance and beam energy configurations have been simulated.

Results and conclusions: Given the results of the simulations, a successful real beam transport is foreseen.

Moreover other engineering considerations are set to ensure treatments qualities such as continuity, reliability and effectiveness.
