QA and QC is an integral part of any radiation delivery system. We present the various aspects of the quality assurance program for the STAR (Stereotactic Alignment Radiosurgery) beamline at the Frances H. Burr Proton Therapy Center (FHBPTC).This beamline was designed and built as an internal project to expand the facility's capacity and was first used in August 2006. The beamline comprises a binary absorber single scattering system, an integrated range verifier, one reference and two monitor ion chambers, axial and orthogonal digital imaging and the STAR patient positionner.
We describe the individual beamline components and their functionality within the system. The beamline characteristics are presented. Daily, weekly, monthly and annual QA and QC procedures are described along with performance data. The system's stability enables patient specific parameters to be modeled rather than measured making for an efficient use of resources.
