Introduction
Modular tumorendoprostheses of the knee joint are used preferably for tumors, loosening of endoprostheses and periprothetik fractures. The scientific evaluation of those operations is unsatisfactorily.
Material and method
On the basis of the literature and our own casuistry (n = 25) we will report mainly about problems and complications.
Results
The at present available tumorendoprostheses systems are characterised through an uncomplicated handling, problems due to connection as well as implant breakage are hardly seen any more. The rate of infection is 5 %, the rate of loosening with tumors at 20 % after 5 years. Regarding surgery technique the paths of conductions are close to the tibia head and have to be considered. The so far solution of a possible replacement of the patellar tendon is solved unsatisfactorily, so that an insufficient extension of the knee joint can result.
Discussion
Modular tumorendoprostheses of the knee joint are reserved for special indications. On the one hand the handling is uncomplicated but on the other hand there are several possible specific complications such as loosening, injury of nerves and vessels and insufficiency of a patellar tendon replacement.
