Introduction: The evaluation of glottic airway enlarging procedures nowadays is based on subjective questionnaires and functional respiratory tests. These interventions, even the latter one, are subjective because the patients overall healthy conditions have a great influence on the measurement. The objective way of the comparison of different methods is the direct evaluation of the glottic area, and the calculated airway resistance. The modern 3D imaging reconstruction softwares provide the possibility of objective assessment of the parameters.
Method: In this study we evaluated the changing of these parameters – comparing the pre- and postoperative scans – in 10 patients (8 women, 2 men). The analyzed glottis enlarging procedure was the endoscopic arytenoid lateropexy (EAL), Slicer 3D software was used for the evaluation.
Results: The study improved the efficacy of this procedure. The glottic area improved significantly (+64%) and the airway resistance decreased due to the better aerodynamic configuration.
