Workshop/Arbeitstreffen

Learning objectives are a powerful tool for educators to plan and design a course, to define the necessary content, to choose a suitable assessment strategy and evaluate the outcome. Commonly regarded as prerequisite for any planned educational effort, they are often initially neglected and produced, if at all, later on. This workshop will try to give guidance through the jungle of different approaches (objectives, outcomes, competencies), taxonomies (e.g. Gagne) and collaborative strategies (e.g. AWMF Leitlinien, DELPHI-Technique).

At the end of the workshop the participants will understand the difference between objectives, outcomes, professional roles and competencies can explain, how learning objectives connect with content, educational strategies, assessment and evaluation have an overview of existing catalogs including their special strength and weaknesses can write knowledge, skills and attitudinal learning objectives matching their own needs and field of expertise know about consensus finding methods and strategies and their benefit for the implementation process of a Catalog of Learning Objectives.

After a short introduction, we will show how to use an interactive ARS and demonstrate the possibilities of the software for generating presentations as well as the PowerPoint Applet. Participants will discuss scenarios using an audience response system. Based on this discussion small groups will develop their own applications using the system available at the Medical University of Vienna. Laptops for group work will be provided.
