The mission of new curriculum in Ternopil State Medical University (TSMU) that has been started in 2007 is to offer an adequate educational program, as well as the organizational structure, qualified academic, administration and technical sta, adequate physical, technical and informational support necessary to provide high quality teaching and program learning. Educational program of the TSMU is unique within the field of Ukrainian medical education. It is based on the learning method already tested in the European and USA medical schools. Curriculum design reflects the way in which learning occurs. During last years we used “whole day system” for Curriculum design. Basic Science learning stands on the practicaloriented learning (PBL) method that enables to integrate learning programs. Theoretic knowledge acquired by this method supports in learning the fundamentals of clinical science and promotes clinical thinking, the latter being the essential basis for successful medical career. Implementation of OSCE gives our students great opportunity to improve their communication and practice skills. The greatest emphasis is made on communicative skills, competences, and the ability to implicate knowledge. One complex test is performed at the end of each semester in order to provide more objective estimation of students’ knowledge. Computer support of the learning process is also a priority for the TSMU; this goal will be achieved by creating an Education and Assessment Computer Center and new design and facilities of university web-portal. Implementation of Credit-module system gives the possibility to estimate grades of students and increase mobility of our students. Positive results of New Curriculum implementation are proved by the 3 range in the Top of Ukrainian medical schools, top ranges of our students in STEP-1, STEP-2 assessment and good professional level of our graduates.
