As a matter of fact, the Medical Faculties in the German speaking countries indeed have a huge problem: The burden of history. Evolved from a centre of a movement, called the development of scientific medicine in Europe, there is a strange leak in perception: The development of education.

In the last decades there were some major changes, which have to be considered:

• Large group to small group
• Teaching to learning
• Input to outcome
• Knowledge to attitudes

The way to involve the faculty members into these major findings could be a faculty development programme based on the idea of “human resource management”. The Lecture will focus on the Cologne faculty development programme, its connection to the LAMA (Landesakademie für Medizinische Ausbildung in NRW) and their compatibility to other Faculty Development Programmes.
