Objective
To assess ease of use, dosing reliability and daily treatment costs with currently existing fixed combination therapies.
Methods
Three ophthalmologists and 1 elderly patient were asked to evaluate use of Cosopt, Xalacom and Combigan. They performed drop count and rated product handling. Daily treatment costs were then compared in 4 countries, including Germany.
Results
All bottles were sufficient for 1 month of treatment. Least variability in drop numbers was found for Combigan. Handling of the Cosopt bottle was found to be most difficult. Daily treatment costs were highest for Xalacom.
Conclusions
These findings suggest that Combigan has the highest dosing reliability overall. Combigan also has lowest daily costs in two countries. Xalacom costs were highest in all 4 countries.
