Objective
To assess quantitatively PCO with the Alcon AcrySof (MA60BM) IOL.
Methods
Between October 1997 and March 1999 102 patients (59 female und 43 male, mean age: 67±14.9 years) underwent phacoemulsification and implantation of the Alcon AcrySof (MA60BM) IOL. After a minimal follow-up time from 48 months retroillumination photographs were taken to assess PCO utilizing the EPCO2000 (Evaluation of Posterior Capsule Opacification) software.
Results
EPCO evaluation included total optic (TO) and central optic (CO) (3mm zone). In all patients TO score was below 1.0 (on a scale from 0 to 4). CO-score was below 0.5 in all patients.
Conclusions
After a mean follow up time from 5 years EPCO scores were fairly low in this patient group. Our results comparing with the data of the Heidelberg PCO-Database are similar low.
