It’s often difficult for young parents to inform their children about their cancer and the consequences or implications of diagnosis and treatment. On the other hand is it known, that children feel better when the family open communicate about the disease. A second problem for younger adults having cancer is, that self help groups mostly meet in the afternoon – when they do their jobs – and that the average age is far beyond them. Therefore they often prefer to handle their problems alone, without help of other patients. We designed an intervention program to support cancer-parents in communication 1. among each other and 2. with their families. It is an art education program, lasting 20 sessions. Qualitative analysis of interviews and session protocols are the main basis for formative evaluation. The study is still ongoing. We would like to present our program and discuss experiences and data. The project is supported by “Deutsche Krebshilfe e. V.”
