Abstract

Introduction: Epidermoid and dermoid cysts are developmental cysts of a benign nature. About 7% are found in the head and neck and 1,6% in the oral cavity.

Exact diagnosis of floor of the mouth lesions is needed to develop correct surgical strategy.

Methods: This case discusses an epidermoid cyst in a 10-year-old girl that brought cosmetic concerns and no functional complaints. Clinical examination revealed an extensive swelling on the floor of the

mouth. Aspiration of the cyst produced a keratin-containing liquid. CT findings showed a cystic homogenous of the floor of the mouth sized 3,7x3,7x2,5cm.

Results: The cyst was removed by external approach. No complications were observed. Histological examination of the mass confirmed the diagnosis of an epidermoid cyst.

Conclusion: Treatment of these cystic lesion is always surgical. It is modified by nature, size and location of the mass according to the floor of the mouth muscles.
