Abstract

Bleomycin, an antineoplasic polipeptidic antibiotic, has been recently used in treatment of vascular anomalies, as a sclerosing agent if it is injected intralesional. We report a study of 4 patients with ages between 3 weeks and 12 years, admitted in “Maria Sklodowska Curie” Children Hospital Bucharest in Surgery Department, and treated with Bleomycin intralesional injections, for vascular anomalies inoperable because of the large surfaces involved or volume of the lesions and special locations on face and neck.

For an accurate pursuance and estimation of the efficacy of the treatment, we use the classification of vascular anomalies suggested by Mulliken and Glowacki in 1982 which allowed us a quick diagnosis, otherwise unconfirmade by the microscopical exam in most of the cases, as vascular lesions treated this way were never operated before. Excellent results allowed the usage of Bleomicycin on a large scale in the locale treatment of vascular anomalies located especialy on the child´s face and neck.

The results are encouraging considering the fact that it is a simple procedure, easy to perform (even we use general anesthesia), very cheap for our country, and with insignificant adverse reations and we recomand this treatment in difficult cases with special locations that cannot be surgical treated.
