88th Annual Meeting of the German Society of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, Head and Neck Surgery

German Society of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, Head and Neck Surgery

24.05. - 27.05.2017, Erfurt

Welcome

Prof. Dr. med. Werner Hosemann

Dear Colleagues,

for the second time in the long history of the German Society of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, the annual meeting of this year (May 24-27, 2017) will take place in Erfurt. Nine papers and presentations reflect the main topics of our meeting dealing with the diagnostics and therapy of hearing disorders as well as vertigo, with tympanoplasty, sudden hearing loss, therapy of vestibular schwannoma, with cochlear implants, and the current state of hearing aid provision.

I am very happy to present today the abstracts that were submitted for the meeting program.

Another focus of this year’s congress is the special program for medical assistants in ENT practices and nurses working in ENT departments and hospitals. Particular emphasis is placed on practice-related topics with independent application.

Also this year, a large space in our program will be allotted to the days of practice. Together with and under the main responsibility of the Professional Association of Otolaryngologists topics have been chosen that are closely related to private practices. Hopefully they will arouse your interest so that many colleagues from practices will join our annual meeting in Erfurt.

The high number of submitted abstracts shows how multifaceted our discipline is. And it also shows the high relevance of the sensory organs we have to examine and to treat. Hearing, smelling, tasting, and the preservation or restitution of the senses of balance and hearing are important aspects of private and professional life. The ENT-specific oncology, traumatology, and dysphagia are further main topics of the meeting program.

From my personal point of view, this meeting should also summarize the year of my presidency. On the one hand we further expanded our German Study Center for Otorhinolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery together with the Professional Association of Otolaryngologists; on the other hand we achieved a close relationship between our scientific society and the Professional Association. Based on the identification of key topics we will work on the so-called Agenda 2025 together with the Professional Association during the next years. In this context, the 88th Annual Meeting represents a first milestone. The main topics that are highly relevant for the future of our discipline are in the focus of numerous invited keynote lectures and round table discussions.

A high number of internationally renowned experts will provide an excellent basis for specific discussions on a highest level.

I want to express my personal thanks to all authors of the scientific contributions for the upcoming 88th Annual Meeting of our society in Erfurt. Beside lively scientific exchange there will also be enough time for intensive discussions and visiting the state capital of Thuringia.

With best wishes

Prof. Dr. med. Dirk Eßer
President of the German Society of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, Head & Neck Surgery
